Installation Notes

Ensure the engine is off and the battery is disconnected. Drain all fuel, oil, and coolant.
Remove the powerhead cover, cylinder head(s), and any other components blocking access to the cylinders.
Carefully remove the connecting rod cap and push the old piston assembly out through the top of the cylinder.
Inspect the cylinder for scoring, wear, or an out-of-round condition. Measure the bore to determine if honing or oversizing is needed.
Fit the new wrist pin and clips to attach the new piston to the connecting rod.
Stagger the new piston ring gaps according to the engine service manual.
Use a ring compressor and liberally lubricate the piston, rings, and cylinder wall before installation.
Gently guide the piston assembly into the cylinder, ensuring correct orientation.
Re-install the connecting rod cap and torque all fasteners to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reassemble the engine, refill fluids, and follow a proper engine break-in procedure before returning to full service.

What does the "Starboard" position specification mean?

For V-block engines, pistons can sometimes be designed differently for the left (port) and right (starboard) cylinder banks. This designation suggests the piston is intended for the starboard side. Please verify if your engine requires specific port and starboard pistons before ordering.

My cylinder is worn. Can I still use this kit?

This kit is for a standard 3.600" bore. If your cylinder is worn, it must be measured by a machine shop. If it requires machining, you will need an oversized piston kit (.010", .020", etc.) to match the new bore diameter. We offer these oversizes separately.

What are the symptoms of a failing piston?
