Installation Notes
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
- Unbolt and carefully remove the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard motor.
- Locate and unbolt the water pump housing to access the old impeller.
- Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, and housing cup. Clean all surfaces of any old gasket material or debris.
- Place the new shaft key in its slot and install the new wear plate and gasket.
- Apply a marine-grade lubricant, glycerine, or dish soap to the inside of the new pump cup and on the new impeller vanes.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft while turning the shaft clockwise to bed the vanes correctly.
- Install the new housing cup and gasket, then bolt the housing down to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.
- Reconnect the battery, start the engine in a water source, and confirm a strong, steady stream from the water tell-tale outlet.
