Installation Notes

Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is cool.
Remove the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard. This typically requires draining the gear oil first.
Place the lower unit on a workbench and remove the bolts securing the water pump housing.
Lift off the housing and carefully note the orientation of the old components.
Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, cup, and key.
Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, ensuring they are free of old gasket material and corrosion.
Install the new components from the kit in the reverse order of removal. Lightly grease the new impeller and cup.
Install the impeller by rotating the driveshaft in its normal direction of operation to seat the vanes correctly.
Reassemble the housing and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's recommended specification.
Reinstall the lower unit, refill with fresh gear lubricant, and reconnect all linkages.
Attach a water supply (flushing muffs) to the lower unit before starting.
Start the engine and immediately check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.

Can I just replace the impeller instead of the whole kit?

What happens if I install the impeller with the vanes facing the wrong way?
