Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is cool.
- Remove the lower unit (gearcase) from the outboard. This typically requires draining the gear oil first.
- Place the lower unit on a workbench and remove the bolts securing the water pump housing.
- Lift off the housing and carefully note the orientation of the old components.
- Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, cup, and key.
- Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, ensuring they are free of old gasket material and corrosion.
- Install the new components from the kit in the reverse order of removal. Lightly grease the new impeller and cup.
- Install the impeller by rotating the driveshaft in its normal direction of operation to seat the vanes correctly.
- Reassemble the housing and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's recommended specification.
- Reinstall the lower unit, refill with fresh gear lubricant, and reconnect all linkages.
- Attach a water supply (flushing muffs) to the lower unit before starting.
- Start the engine and immediately check for a steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my water pump is failing?
The most common signs are a weak or inconsistent water stream from the "tell-tale" pisser outlet, a high engine temperature reading, or an overheating alarm from your console or tiller.
How often should I replace my water pump kit?
For preventative maintenance, it is best practice to inspect the impeller annually and replace the full water pump kit every 2-3 years or 200-300 hours of operation. Service intervals should be shorter if operating frequently in saltwater or silty/sandy conditions.
Can I just replace the impeller instead of the whole kit?
While possible, it is not recommended. The housing, wear plate, and gaskets are also wear items that degrade over time. Replacing the entire kit ensures all components are fresh, providing a more reliable and longer-lasting repair.
What happens if I install the impeller with the vanes facing the wrong way?
The pump will not function correctly and may be damaged upon starting the engine. Always follow the installation instructions, rotating the driveshaft in its normal rotational direction to correctly fold the vanes into the pump cup.
Is this an OEM part?
This is a high-quality aftermarket replacement part, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component. It is engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications for fit, form, and function and is produced in an ISO 9002 certified facility.
What is the shipping speed and cost?
We ship worldwide quickly, with typical transit times of 5–15 days for most regions. Standard shipping is free, and any available expedited shipping options will be presented at checkout.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. Should an issue arise, please contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for unused items in their original condition.
