This Transom Saver Support with Steering Cylinder Locks provides a safe and effective way to protect your outboard motor's transom, steering, and trim/tilt system while trailering. It is designed for a wide range of Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Johnson/Evinrude, and Suzuki outboards from 90HP to 350HP equipped with 2-ram or 3-ram trim/tilt systems.

This aftermarket component serves as a direct replacement for parts like the MY Wedge YM08, YiheoZux YM08, and QuickMarine Transom Support.

Installation Notes

  1. Trim the outboard motor to the full "up" position.
  2. Slide the transom saver wedge onto the trim/tilt piston rod on the specified side: port for Yamaha/Suzuki or starboard for Mercury/Honda/Johnson.
  3. Ensure the wedge slides completely down onto the trim/tilt piston rod until it is fully seated.
  4. Trim the outboard down until the rubber on the wedge begins to compress against the motor's frame.
  5. Install the two steering locks onto the hydraulic steering cylinder rods on both sides of the motor to prevent turning during transit.
  6. To remove, simply trim the outboard motor back to the "up" position and remove the wedge and steering locks.

How do I know if this will fit my specific motor?

This transom saver fits most major outboard brands (Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Johnson/Evinrude, Suzuki) with 2-ram and 3-ram power trim/tilt systems in the 90-350HP range. Please check the compatibility table for specific model series and any special notes, such as installation side.

On which side of the engine do I install the wedge?

Installation varies by brand. Install it on the port (left) side for Yamaha and Suzuki outboards. For Mercury, Honda, and Johnson/Evinrude outboards, install it on the starboard (right) side.

Why are the two steering cylinder locks necessary?

The included steering locks snap onto the hydraulic steering cylinder rods to keep the engine centered during trailering. This prevents the outboard from turning, which can cause damage to the steering system and boat components over time due to road vibrations.

Do I need to buy one or two transom savers?

For the vast majority of motors, only one transom saver is required. The only common exception is the Yamaha V-8 F300-F350 series, which requires two wedges (one for each trim ram) for proper support.

What happens if I don't use a transom saver?

Trailering an outboard without proper support can put significant stress on the boat's transom, leading to cracks and costly structural damage. It also causes wear and tear on the motor's hydraulic trim and tilt system.
