- Reattach the lower unit, reconnect the battery, and test the engine in water to confirm a strong tell-tale stream.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this impeller will fit my specific engine?
The best way is to check the compatibility table on this page. Match your engine's brand, model, horsepower, and year/serial number range. If you are still unsure, compare the part numbers in our matrix with those listed in your engine's service manual.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alerts or alarms, and in severe cases, steam from the exhaust. Reduced top-end performance can also be an early indicator.
How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?
As a general rule, it's recommended to replace the impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. For boats used in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions, annual replacement is strongly advised as part of routine preventative maintenance.
My engine is overheating, but I just replaced the impeller. What else could be wrong?
If a new impeller doesn't solve overheating, check for other blockages in the cooling system. This can include clogged intake screens, a worn or damaged pump housing, a stuck thermostat, or debris lodged within the engine's cooling passages.
Is it normal for the old impeller's blades to be bent?
Yes. Impeller blades are designed to be flexible and are bent into position when installed inside the pump housing. However, if the blades are brittle, cracked, missing chunks, or permanently set in their bent shape, the impeller has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement.
What's the difference between OEM and aftermarket parts?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part. It is built to meet or exceed OEM-level specifications using comparable high-quality materials. Our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 certified facility and are batch-inspected to ensure consistent quality and performance.
How much does shipping cost and how fast is it?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit time is 5–15 days for most regions. Standard shipping is free. If available for your location, expedited shipping options and their costs will be displayed at checkout.
What is the warranty and return policy?
This part is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If you encounter an issue, please contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in their original condition. See our full policy page or reach out for instructions.
Safety & Important Info
- Verify images and specifications against your original part before purchase. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not install the part.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement component, not an OEM part. Brand names and part numbers are used for reference purposes only.
- Professional installation is highly recommended for safety and to ensure proper performance. Improper installation can lead to engine damage.
