Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and ensure the outboard is in the neutral position before starting.
- Locate and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gear case) to the engine's midsection.
- Carefully lower and separate the gear case, taking care to disconnect the shift linkage if it does not separate automatically.
- Unbolt the water pump housing cover to expose the old impeller. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller's vanes.
- Remove the old impeller, gaskets, and wear plate, then thoroughly clean all mating surfaces.
- Install the new gasket, wear plate, impeller key, and impeller. Lightly grease the inside of the housing and the new impeller.
- When installing the new impeller, bend the vanes in the correct rotational direction as noted during disassembly.
- Reinstall the pump housing, torquing the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
- Reattach the lower unit to the engine, reconnecting the shift linkage, and secure it with the mounting bolts.
- Attach a water supply (flushing muffs) and test the engine at idle to confirm a steady stream from the cooling system's tell-tale outlet.
