Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
  2. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear lube drain/fill screws to drain the oil.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the midsection and carefully lower it.
  4. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing to expose the old impeller. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller blades.
  5. Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, wear plate, and gaskets. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces.
  6. Install the new gasket and wear plate onto the driveshaft. Insert the new woodruff key into its slot.
  7. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, aligning the keyway. Rotate the driveshaft clockwise while pushing down to seat the blades correctly inside the housing.
  8. Install the new seal ring into the pump housing and apply a light coat of marine grease to the interior.
  9. Slide the housing assembly down over the impeller and secure it with its bolts, tightening to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  10. Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the water tube and shift shaft align correctly.
  11. Refill the lower unit with fresh gear lube from the bottom plug until it flows from the top hole. Reinstall both plugs.
  12. Reconnect the battery and test the engine's cooling system operation in water, ensuring a strong tell-tale stream.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this kit fits my specific engine?

This kit fits Suzuki DF200 (2004–2014), DF225 (2004–Current), and DF250 (2004–Current) non-"A" models. Always verify your engine's model and year against our compatibility table. Before installation, visually compare the new parts with your old ones to confirm a perfect match.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "telltale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, steam from the exhaust, and a reduction in engine performance. Do not operate an engine that is overheating.

How often should I replace the water pump impeller?

For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the impeller every 1 to 2 years or every 100-200 hours of use. Service intervals should be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.

Why does the kit fit both Suzuki and some BRP/OMC models?

While the primary application is for the specified Suzuki outboards, some components are manufactured to specifications that allow them to be used in other applications. This kit cross-references to BRP/OMC part 5035036. If you own a non-Suzuki engine, you must verify fitment by part number, not just by engine model.

The new impeller blades are straight, not curved like my old one. Is it correct?

Yes. New impellers are made with flexible rubber blades that are straight out of the box. They will bend into the correct curved orientation once installed inside the round water pump housing and the driveshaft is turned clockwise during installation.

Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket equivalent?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement part, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component. It has been engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications using comparable materials and is manufactured in an ISO 9002 certified facility with batch inspections to ensure quality and consistency.

How fast do you ship and what does it cost?

We ship worldwide quickly, with typical transit times of 5–15 days for most regions. Standard shipping is free. Expedited shipping options and rates, if available for your location, will be displayed at checkout.

What is the warranty and return policy?

This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. If you encounter an issue, please contact our support team with your order details for assistance. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in their original packaging. Please see our full policy page or contact us for instructions.
