Installation Notes

Disconnect the battery and secure the engine to prevent accidental starting.
Place a drain pan under the lower unit and drain the gearcase oil.
Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) and carefully slide it off the driveshaft housing.
Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to access the impeller.
Take note of the old impeller's vane direction before removing it, along with the old gaskets, plate, and key.
Clean all mating surfaces of any old gasket material or debris.
Install the new wear plate (17471-99J00) and gasket (17472-99J00).
Insert the new impeller shaft key (09420-03009) into the driveshaft.
Slide the new impeller (17461-939M0) onto the shaft, rotating it clockwise to bend the vanes correctly as you fit it into the housing.
Reinstall the housing cover with the new gasket (17473-94J00) and tighten bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specs.
Carefully reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube engage properly.
Refill the gearcase with marine-grade gear oil. Start the engine in water and confirm a strong, steady stream from the cooling system's tell-tale port.
