Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) and carefully lower it from the driveshaft housing.
- Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing to access the impeller. Note the orientation of the old components.
- Thoroughly clean the driveshaft, housing interior, and all mating surfaces.
- Install the new gasket and stainless steel impeller plate onto the gearcase.
- Slide the woodruff key into the driveshaft slot and push the new impeller down over it. Turn the driveshaft clockwise to help seat the impeller vanes correctly.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new pump cup/housing and install it over the impeller with the new gasket.
- Securely tighten the housing bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned. Reinstall and tighten all bolts.
- Once assembled, reconnect the battery and test the engine's cooling system operation in water at a safe idle speed, checking for a steady stream from the tell-tale port.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my specific engine?
The surest method is to match your engine's model and year range against our compatibility table. You can also cross-reference your existing part number with the equivalents listed in the Part Number Matrix. If you are uncertain, please contact us with your engine's serial number before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water pump?
Common symptoms include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, or visible damage (cracked, brittle, or missing vanes) on the old impeller upon inspection.
How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
As a general maintenance guideline, it is recommended to inspect and/or replace the water pump impeller every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, depending on usage conditions (e.g., more frequently in saltwater or sandy/silty water).
Is the water pump housing included in this kit?
No, this is a repair kit containing the impeller, plate, key, and gaskets. It is designed to be used with your existing water pump housing. If your housing is melted, scored, or cracked, it should be replaced separately.
Can this kit be used for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines?
Yes, this specific kit is designed to fit a range of both 2-stroke and 4-stroke Suzuki outboards, as detailed in the compatibility chart.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
