Installation Notes
- Disconnect the boat's battery terminals to prevent electrical shorts.
- Locate the existing oil pressure sensor on the engine block. Clean the surrounding area to prevent contaminants from entering the engine.
- Carefully disconnect the electrical wire from the old sensor.
- Using an appropriately sized wrench, unscrew and remove the old sensor. Be prepared for a small amount of oil spillage.
- Clean the threads on the engine block to ensure a good seal.
- Apply a suitable thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor if one is not pre-applied.
- Screw the new sensor in by hand until it is snug, then tighten it with a wrench. Do not over-tighten.
- Reconnect the electrical wire securely to the new sensor's terminal.
- Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for any leaks around the sensor and verify the oil pressure gauge or warning light is functioning correctly.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my oil pressure sensor is failing?
Common signs of a faulty sensor include an oil pressure gauge that is stuck at zero, maxed out, or fluctuates erratically. You may also see the low oil pressure warning light flicker or stay on constantly, even when oil levels are correct.
Is this a sensor for a gauge or just a warning light?
This is a normally open pressure switch, which is typically used to operate a low oil pressure warning light on the dashboard. It closes the electrical circuit to activate the light when a pressure drop is detected.
What is the difference between part 1324750 and 3852215?
Part number 1324750 fits a broad range of older Volvo Penta diesel and gasoline engines. Part 3852215 is an alternate part number used on many mid-1990s and newer V6 and V8 gasoline engines (3.0L–8.1L). Always use your engine's model and serial number to verify the correct part before ordering.
What are the signs of incorrect installation?
An oil leak from the sensor's threads is a clear sign of improper installation, usually due to under-tightening or missing thread sealant. Incorrect electrical readings (no signal or constant warning light) can indicate a loose wire connection.
