Installation Notes
- Secure the sterndrive in its highest position and disconnect the battery for safety.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain/fill plugs to let the gear oil drain completely.
- Remove the propeller assembly.
- Unbolt and carefully separate the lower unit (gearcase) from the upper driveshaft housing.
- Follow the manufacturer's service manual to disassemble the gearcase and access the driveshaft and prop shaft seals.
- Carefully extract all old seals, gaskets, and O-rings, taking care not to scratch or damage the metal sealing surfaces.
- Thoroughly clean all components and sealing surfaces of any old sealant, debris, and corrosion.
- Lightly lubricate the new seals and O-rings with marine grease. Install them using appropriate seal drivers to ensure they are seated evenly.
- Reassemble the gearcase components in reverse order, torquing all bolts to the manufacturer's specified values.
- Reinstall the lower unit to the sterndrive.
- Refill the gearcase with fresh, high-quality marine gear lubricant as per your owner's manual.
- After running the engine (on water or with a water supply), check for any oil or water leaks around the seal and parting line areas.
