Troubleshooting & FAQ
Why use a magnesium anode instead of zinc or aluminum?
Magnesium is the most active metal on the galvanic scale, providing the most effective protection against corrosion in freshwater. Zinc anodes are designed for saltwater, and aluminum anodes are best for brackish or salt water.
How often should I inspect or replace these anodes?
Inspect your anodes at least annually or every time you haul your boat. They should be replaced when they are 50% corroded to ensure your sterndrive components remain protected.
What are the signs that my anodes are not working correctly?
If your anodes show no signs of corrosion (pitting, "chalky" appearance) after a season in the water, they may not be making good electrical contact. If you see signs of corrosion on your sterndrive itself, the anodes are not functioning correctly and should be inspected immediately.
Will this kit fit sterndrives other than the Volvo Penta 290 series?
This kit is specifically designed for the Volvo Penta 290 and SP-E series. We cannot guarantee fitment or proper protection on other models. Always verify part numbers before ordering.
Do I need to paint the new anodes or the area underneath?
No. Never paint an anode or the surface it mounts to. Paint will act as an insulator and prevent the anode from providing galvanic protection.
Is this an OEM part?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. The manufacturer operates an ISO 9002 facility and batch-inspects parts for consistency.
What are the shipping speed and cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free to most locations; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
What is the warranty and return policy?
This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If any issues arise, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in original condition. See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
