Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is turned off, disconnected from power, and has cooled down. Drain the engine oil.
  2. Remove the oil pan to gain access to the crankshaft and main bearing caps.
  3. Carefully unbolt and remove the main bearing caps, making sure to keep them in their original order and orientation.
  4. Remove the old bearing halves from the engine block and the bearing caps.
  5. Thoroughly clean the bearing saddles in the block and caps, ensuring all surfaces are free of oil and debris.
  6. Install the new main bearing halves, ensuring the locating tangs are correctly seated.
  7. Apply a generous amount of engine assembly lubricant to the surface of the new bearings.
  8. Reinstall the main bearing caps in their correct order and orientation. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specified values and sequence.
  9. Verify crankshaft rotates freely and check bearing clearance with Plastigauge as recommended by the service manual.
  10. Reinstall the oil pan with a new gasket and refill the engine with the correct grade of oil.

How do I know if I need 0.25mm oversized bearings?

Oversized bearings are required when a crankshaft journal has been machined (ground) down by 0.25mm during an engine rebuild. Always measure your crankshaft journal diameter to confirm the correct bearing size is needed.
