Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is cool. Drain the engine oil completely.
  2. Access the engine block by removing any necessary covers, cowlings, and components like the intake manifold or cylinder head.
  3. Remove the oil pan to access the bottom end of the connecting rods.
  4. Carefully unbolt the connecting rod cap for the cylinder you are servicing. Keep the cap and its corresponding rod matched.
  5. Gently press the piston and rod assembly out through the top of the cylinder bore.
  6. Remove the old bearing from the small end of the connecting rod.
  7. Press the new connecting rod bearing into place, ensuring it is properly seated.
  8. Lubricate the new bearing and re-install the piston and rod assembly in reverse order.
  9. Torque all bolts to the manufacturer's specified values using a calibrated torque wrench.
  10. Reassemble all remaining components, refill with fresh oil, and start the engine to check for proper operation and any leaks.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this bearing fits my engine?

First, check your engine’s model, HP, and year against the compatibility table. Second, cross-reference your existing part number with the list in our Part Number Matrix. If both match, the part is compatible.

What are the signs of a bad connecting rod bearing?

The most common symptom is a persistent, metallic knocking or tapping sound from the engine that increases with RPM. Other signs include low oil pressure warnings and finding metallic shavings in the engine oil during an oil change.

When should this bearing be replaced?

Connecting rod bearings are typically replaced during a scheduled major engine overhaul or rebuild. They should also be replaced immediately if you diagnose symptoms of bearing failure, such as engine knock, to prevent catastrophic engine damage.

Can I replace just one bearing?

While possible, it is best practice to replace all connecting rod bearings at the same time during an engine rebuild. This ensures consistent wear, clearances, and long-term reliability across all cylinders.

Is this an original Yamaha OEM part?

This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component. It is designed and manufactured to meet or exceed the original equipment manufacturer's specifications for fit, form, and function.

What is the difference between small end and big end bearings?

This is a small end bearing, which connects the connecting rod to the piston pin. The big end bearing is located at the other end of the rod and connects to the crankshaft.

How fast is shipping?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options will appear at checkout if available for your location.

What is the warranty and return policy?

This part is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. Should an issue arise, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window if the part is unused and in its original packaging. Please see our full policy page or contact us for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images and specifications against your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended for safety and performance.
