Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off, cool, and disconnected from the power source.
  2. Drain the lower unit gear lube completely.
  3. Remove the propeller and then the lower unit assembly from the engine.
  4. Depending on your engine, you may need to remove the powerhead to access the lower crankshaft area.
  5. Carefully pry out the old oil seal using a dedicated seal puller, taking care not to scratch the crankshaft or housing surfaces.
  6. Thoroughly clean the seal bore to remove any residue, old sealant, or corrosion.
  7. Lightly lubricate the inner and outer surfaces of the new oil seal with marine-grade grease.
  8. Using a correctly sized seal driver or socket, press the new seal into place until it is perfectly flush and evenly seated.
  9. Reassemble all components (powerhead, lower unit, propeller) in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Refill the gearcase with the manufacturer-specified gear lube to the correct level.
  11. After reassembly, run the engine and carefully check for any signs of oil leaks around the seal area.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my lower crankshaft seal is failing?

The most common signs are a visible oil leak from the lower part of the engine cowling or a noticeable drop in engine oil level without other obvious causes. In some cases, water may enter the crankcase, causing the oil to appear milky.

What is the difference between an upper and lower crankshaft seal?

The upper seal is located at the top of the crankshaft near the flywheel, while the lower seal is located at the bottom, where the driveshaft connects. This part is specifically for the lower position. Always verify the correct part for the location you are servicing.

How often should this seal be replaced?

There is no fixed service interval for crankshaft seals. They should be inspected for leaks or damage during any major engine service (like a water pump replacement) and replaced immediately if they show signs of failure, such as hardening, cracking, or visible weeping.

Is this product an OEM part?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. All our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility and are batch-inspected for quality and consistency.

How fast is shipping?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit time is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free for most orders. Expedited shipping options, if available for your location, will be presented at checkout.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Our parts are covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. If you encounter an issue, please contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for unused items in their original condition. See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images and specifications against your original part before ordering. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component. Brand names and part numbers are used for reference purposes only.
  • Professional installation is strongly recommended for safety and to ensure proper performance. Incorrect installation can lead to engine damage.
