Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off, cool, and disconnected from the battery.
  2. Place a drain pan under the engine and drain the cooling system.
  3. Locate the thermostat housing on the engine block or cylinder head.
  4. Remove the bolts securing the housing cover. Note their positions if they are different lengths.
  5. Carefully remove the housing cover. If it is stuck, tap it gently with a rubber mallet; do not pry it open.
  6. Remove the old thermostat and any existing gasket or sealant.
  7. Thoroughly clean both the housing and cover mating surfaces to remove all old gasket material and corrosion.
  8. Install the new thermostat, ensuring it is oriented correctly (the jiggle valve or bleed hole should typically face up). A new gasket is highly recommended.
  9. Reinstall the housing cover and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque in a crisscross pattern.
  10. Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant mixture.
  11. Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for any leaks around the housing as the engine warms up.
  12. Monitor the engine temperature to ensure it stabilizes in the normal operating range.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What are signs of a failing thermostat?

Common signs include engine overheating (stuck closed) or taking too long to reach operating temperature (stuck open). You might also notice poor engine performance, increased fuel consumption, or erratic temperature gauge readings.

Why is the 50°C (122°F) operating temperature important?

This temperature rating is specified by the manufacturer to ensure the engine warms up quickly but does not overheat. It maintains the optimal temperature for efficient combustion, performance, and longevity, especially in marine environments.

Is a gasket included with this thermostat?

This listing is for the thermostat only. Gaskets are sold separately. It is critical to use a new, compatible gasket during installation to ensure a proper seal and prevent coolant leaks.

How often should an outboard thermostat be replaced?

There is no fixed interval, but it is often recommended to inspect or replace the thermostat every 2-3 years or 200-300 hours, especially if operating in saltwater. It's good practice to replace it as preventative maintenance whenever the cooling system is serviced.

I don't see my exact engine model listed. Will this part still fit?

Do not install this part if your model is not explicitly listed. Even if the part looks similar, internal differences can lead to improper fitment and engine damage. Please verify the part number required for your specific engine before purchasing.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?
