Installation Notes
- Disconnect the spark plug leads and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase oil drain screw to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's upper casing.
- Gently lower the gearcase away from the engine, watching for the shift shaft and driveshaft to disengage.
- Locate the water pump assembly on top of the gearcase and remove the bolts securing its housing.
- Lift off the pump housing and slide the old impeller, wear plate, and gaskets off the driveshaft. Note their orientation.
- Clean the driveshaft and housing mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new components from the kit in reverse order: gasket, plate, woodruff key, and then the new impeller. Lubricate the impeller and housing interior with a marine-safe grease.
- Slide the new housing over the impeller while turning the driveshaft clockwise to seat the vanes correctly.
- Fasten the new housing with the new bolts and torque to the manufacturer's specification.
- Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align properly.
- Reinstall the lower unit bolts, refill the gearcase with fresh oil, and reconnect the spark plug leads. Test on a water supply.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?
Check your engine's model and year against the compatibility table. The most reliable way is to match your engine's full model number (e.g., F50TLRB) to the list. If unsure, contact us with your engine details before ordering.
What are signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Key symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, and in severe cases, steam from the exhaust. A damaged impeller can cause rapid and severe engine damage.
How often should I replace the impeller?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the water pump impeller and gaskets every 1 to 2 years, or every 100-200 hours of operation. Service intervals depend heavily on usage conditions (e.g., saltwater vs. freshwater, sandy/silty water).
Does this kit include the pump housing?
Yes, this is a complete kit that includes the water pump housing cover, impeller, cartridge insert and outer plate, gaskets, and all necessary bolts and hardware for a full replacement.
Can I install this kit myself?
While many boat owners perform this service themselves, it requires mechanical skill and proper tools. For safety and correct installation, we recommend consulting a service manual for your specific engine or having a qualified marine mechanic perform the work.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
Shipping speed & cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
Warranty & returns?
Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
