Installation Notes
- Warm up the engine for 5-10 minutes to circulate the oil, then shut it off.
- Place a suitable drain pan under the lower cowling and remove the oil drain plug.
- Allow all oil to drain. Replace the oil drain plug gasket and reinstall the plug.
- Remove the old oil filter. Apply a light film of new oil to the gasket of the new filter and install it.
- Refill the engine with Yamalube 4M 10W-30 engine oil, checking the level with the dipstick.
- Replace the primary fuel filter element and the external 10-micron fuel/water separating filter.
- Carefully remove and replace the six spark plugs, ensuring they are gapped correctly before installation.
- Position the drain pan under the lower unit and remove both the upper (vent) and lower (drain) gear lube screws.
- Allow gear lube to drain completely. Install a gear lube pump into the lower drain hole and pump in new lube until it flows from the upper vent hole.
- Reinstall the upper vent plug, then quickly remove the pump and reinstall the lower drain plug. Use new gaskets on both plugs.
- Start the engine and check all service points for leaks. Verify oil level and top off if needed.

Will this kit fit my 2009 Yamaha F225B?
This kit is specifically designed for the 4.2L V6 platform (2010–Current). While your 2009 F225B is listed as compatible, it's a transitional year. We highly recommend verifying individual part numbers against your service manual to ensure a perfect match.
What is the difference between the 100-hour and 300-hour kits?
The 300-hour kit includes everything in the 100-hour kit, plus two thermostats and a complete water pump repair kit. These additional items are recommended by Yamaha for replacement at the 300-hour or 3-year service interval.
How often should I perform this service?
Yamaha recommends servicing your outboard every 100 hours of use or annually, whichever comes first. Regular maintenance is crucial for engine longevity and reliability. Always refer to your owner's manual for the official service schedule.
Can I use this kit for my F350 V6?
No. While some retailers mention this, this kit is specifically for the F225, F250, and F300 4.2L V6 engine block. The F350 is a different displacement engine and requires a different set of parts. Do not purchase this kit for an F350.
