Installation Notes

Ensure the engine is off and cool, and close the corresponding seacock.
Locate the anode plugs on the heat exchanger, intercooler, and oil cooler.
Use an appropriate wrench to unscrew the brass plugs. Be prepared for some water to drain out.
Remove the old, worn zinc pencil from each plug. If it's heavily corroded, you may need pliers.
Clean the threads on the plug and inside the housing.
Insert the new zinc anode into the corresponding plug.
Apply a pipe thread sealant to the plug threads to ensure a watertight seal.
Screw the new anode assemblies back into place and tighten them securely. Do not overtighten.
Once all anodes are replaced, open the seacock.
Start the engine and carefully check for any leaks around the new plugs.

How often should I replace these zinc anodes?

Anodes should be inspected every few months and replaced when they are 50% eroded. The replacement interval depends heavily on your boat's location, water salinity, and electrical system, but a common schedule is annually.

What are the signs my anodes need replacing?

Visible signs include severe pitting, crumbling, or the anode being "eaten away" to less than half its original size. A rapid rate of corrosion can also indicate stray electrical current issues on your vessel that should be investigated.

Will this kit fit my 4LH series engine?

Generally, no. Most Yanmar 4LH models (like the -TE, -HTE, -DTE) do not have factory locations for zinc anodes. This kit specifically does not fit the 4LH-STE 230 HP model. It is designed for the 4LHA series and other specified engines.

Some sources say my engine needs five small zincs, not four. Why?

Certain Yanmar engine configurations, particularly those mated to a ZF transmission, may have an additional anode in the transmission cooler. This kit contains the standard four small anodes (119574-44150) for the engine itself. Please verify your specific setup before ordering.
