Installation Notes

Professional installation is recommended. These are general, non-specific guidelines for replacing a wrist pin bearing:

  1. Safely disconnect the battery and all fuel lines before beginning work.
  2. Disassemble the engine block as required to gain access to the cylinder, piston, and connecting rod assembly.
  3. Carefully remove the wrist pin retaining clips (circlips) from the piston.
  4. Press the old wrist pin out of the piston and connecting rod to remove the old bearing.
  5. Thoroughly clean and inspect the piston bore and connecting rod small end for any signs of scoring, wear, or damage.
  6. Generously lubricate the new caged wrist pin bearing with fresh 2-stroke oil.
  7. Install the new bearing into the connecting rod's small end.
  8. Align the piston with the connecting rod and gently press the lubricated wrist pin through both components until centered.
  9. Install new wrist pin retaining clips, ensuring they are fully seated in their grooves.
  10. Reassemble the engine according to the manufacturer's service manual, paying close attention to all torque specifications.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my wrist pin bearing is failing?

Common signs of a worn wrist pin bearing include a distinct metallic knocking or rattling sound from the engine, especially under load or during RPM changes. A noticeable loss of power, increased engine vibration, or metal shavings in the oil can also indicate a problem.

Is this caged bearing a direct replacement for loose needle bearings?

Yes, this caged wrist pin bearing is designed as a direct, easier-to-install alternative to loose needle bearings for the specified engine models. The cage prevents individual needles from falling out during the assembly process.

What is the difference between part numbers 434844 and 348495?

Part number 348495 was the original part number, which was later superseded by 434844. They are functionally identical, and this aftermarket part is a direct replacement for both OEM numbers.

When should a wrist pin bearing be replaced?

Wrist pin bearings do not have a fixed service interval and are typically replaced during a top-end service or a complete engine rebuild. Replacement should be considered if the engine has high hours or if signs of wear are present during inspection.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
