- Locate the thermostat housing on the engine block. Place a drain pan underneath if needed.
- Carefully remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing cover. Note their length and position if they differ.
- Remove the old thermostat and gasket. Take note of the thermostat's orientation.
- Thoroughly clean both the housing and cover mating surfaces. Remove all traces of old gasket material.
- Install the new thermostat in the correct orientation, followed by the appropriate new gasket from the kit.
- Re-secure the housing cover, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque in a star pattern.
- Reconnect the engine's cooling hoses and refill the cooling system.
- Reconnect the battery. Start the engine and carefully check for any leaks around the housing as it warms up.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my thermostat is failing?
Common signs of a faulty thermostat include engine overheating, running too cold (not reaching operating temperature), erratic temperature gauge readings, and poor engine performance or fuel economy.
Why is the temperature rated at both 120°F and 122°F?
The OEM Mercury part is rated to open at 120°F. Some aftermarket versions, like this one, may open at a slightly different temperature (e.g., 122°F/50°C). This minor difference does not affect performance and falls within a safe operating range for the compatible engines.
Which of the three gaskets do I use?
This kit includes multiple gaskets to fit the various engine models listed. Compare the gaskets to your old one and the shape of the housing to determine the correct one for your specific application. You will only use one gasket.
Can I install this myself?
While installation is straightforward for those with mechanical experience, we recommend professional installation to ensure it's done correctly, preventing potential leaks or damage. Always follow your engine's service manual.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
Shipping speed & cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.
Warranty & returns?
Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Safety & Important Info
- Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended for safety and performance.
