Installation Notes
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting work.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear lube drain/fill screws to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's upper casing and carefully lower it.
- Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and remove its bolts.
- Slide the housing up and off the driveshaft to expose the old impeller. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller's blades.
- Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, and any gaskets. Clean all surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new woodruff key and apply a light coat of marine grease or soap/water solution to the new impeller and inside the pump housing.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft clockwise to help fold the blades in the correct direction.
- Reinstall the water pump housing with new gaskets and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
- Reattach the lower unit to the engine, ensuring the driveshaft and shift shaft align correctly.
- Refill the lower unit with the specified amount of fresh gear lube.
- Once the boat is in water, start the engine and verify a steady stream of water is exiting the tell-tale port.
