Installation Notes
- Disconnect the engine's battery cables and the spark plug wires for safety.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase oil drain/fill plugs to drain the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the midsection and carefully lower it from the engine.
- Unscrew the water pump housing bolts and lift the housing off the driveshaft.
- Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft, removing the driveshaft key. Note the direction of the old impeller vanes.
- Remove the old water pump gasket and clean the mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new gasket and place the new driveshaft key in its slot.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft while turning the shaft clockwise to correctly orient the vanes.
- Lubricate the inside of the pump housing and install it over the impeller. Tighten the housing bolts to the manufacturer's torque specification.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned.
- Refill the gearcase with fresh marine gear oil before starting the engine.
- Once assembled, test the engine in a suitable water source to confirm proper water flow from the tell-tale outlet.
