Installation Notes
- For safety, disconnect the boat's battery before starting work.
- Raise the sterndrive to the full up/tilt position to access all anode locations.
- Carefully remove the bolts securing the old anodes. You may need to clean away marine growth first.
- Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces on the sterndrive. A wire brush is effective for removing old residue and corrosion to ensure good metal-to-metal contact.
- Position the new anodes and install the new mounting hardware included in the kit.
- Tighten the bolts securely, but do not over-tighten, as this can damage the anode or the sterndrive casting.
- Lower the sterndrive and reconnect the battery.

Why must I use magnesium anodes in fresh water?
Magnesium is more active on the galvanic scale compared to zinc or aluminum. This makes it ideal for fresh water, where lower conductivity requires a more active anode to provide adequate protection. Using zinc or aluminum in fresh water may not prevent corrosion effectively.
Can I use this magnesium kit in salt or brackish water?
No. Magnesium anodes will corrode extremely quickly in salt or brackish water, leaving your sterndrive unprotected in a very short time. Use an aluminum anode kit for salt or brackish water, and a zinc kit for salt water only applications.
How often should I inspect and replace my anodes?
Anodes should be inspected at least once a year, or every 50-100 hours of use. They must be replaced when they are 50% consumed. Never paint anodes, as this will render them ineffective.
What are the signs that my old anodes have failed?
Visible signs of failure include severe pitting, rapid and uneven corrosion on the sterndrive's metal components, or anodes that are completely gone. If an anode looks brand new after a season of use, it is not working correctly; check for poor electrical contact.
Does this kit fit all Bravo One drives?
