Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this fuel filter fits my engine?

This filter is specifically for MerCruiser engines with Holley 4-barrel carburetors. The surest method is to check your OEM part number against the references 35-93568 and Sierra 18-7717. You should also consult the compatibility table on this page.

Where is this filter located?

This small, sintered bronze filter is installed directly inside the large fuel inlet nut (fitting) on a Holley marine carburetor. It is not an inline canister filter.

What are the signs of a clogged carburetor fuel filter?

Common symptoms include engine hesitation or bogging under acceleration, difficulty starting, rough idling, or a general loss of top-end power. Since debris can be microscopic, these symptoms may develop gradually.

How often should this filter be replaced?

For preventative maintenance, it's wise to inspect or replace this filter annually or every 100 hours of operation, especially if you have an older fuel tank or use ethanol-blended fuels. Always replace it if you experience fuel delivery issues.

Is this the only fuel filter on my engine?

No. Most marine fuel systems have at least two filters: a primary water-separating fuel filter located between the tank and the engine, and a secondary filter on the engine itself. This part is a secondary, last-chance filter located at the carburetor inlet.

Can I clean and reuse my old filter?

It is not recommended. The pores in a sintered bronze filter can become permanently clogged with microscopic particles that are not easily removed. Given the low cost and critical function, replacement is the safest option.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
