What’s in the Box

  • 1 × Trim Tab Anode (CM762145M)
  • 1 × Housing Plate Anode (CM821630M)
  • 2 × Trim Cylinder Anodes (CM806190M)
  • Mounting Hardware

Installation Notes

  1. Tilt the outdrive to the full "up" or "trailer" position for easiest access to the anodes.
  2. Disconnect the boat's battery/batteries as a safety precaution before starting work.
  3. Unbolt and remove the old, depleted anodes. Note the location of each type of anode.
  4. Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces on the outdrive where the new anodes will sit. A wire brush is effective for removing any corrosion or fouling to ensure good electrical contact.
  5. Install the new anodes using the provided hardware. Do not use thread-locking compound.
  6. Ensure each anode is securely fastened and has direct, firm metal-to-metal contact with the drive housing. This contact is critical for proper galvanic protection.
  7. Once all anodes are installed, you may reconnect the battery.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What is the purpose of this anode kit?

This kit protects the metallic components of your MerCruiser Bravo II or III outdrive from galvanic corrosion, which occurs when dissimilar metals are submerged in water. The magnesium anodes act as sacrificial metal, corroding away to protect the more expensive parts of your drive.

Can I use this magnesium kit in salt or brackish water?

No. This kit uses a magnesium alloy specifically designed for the lower electrical conductivity of fresh water. Using it in salt or brackish water will cause it to corrode too quickly, leaving your drive unprotected. For salt or brackish water, use an aluminum or zinc anode kit.

How do I know when my anodes need to be replaced?

You should inspect your anodes regularly (at least once a season or every 6 months). They should be replaced when they appear to be 50% consumed or when significant pitting or crumbling is visible.

Does this kit fit Bravo III drives made after 2003?

No, this particular kit is specified for Bravo III models only up to the 2003 model year. Later models may require a different anode configuration.

Is all the necessary hardware included?

Yes, this kit includes the mounting hardware required to install the new anodes on your outdrive.

What causes anodes to not work correctly?

The most common cause of failure is a poor electrical connection. The mounting surface must be clean and free of paint, sealant, or heavy corrosion to ensure good metal-to-metal contact. Another cause is using the wrong anode material for the water type (e.g., zinc in fresh water).

What’s the difference between OEM and aftermarket anodes?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement part, not an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component. It is built to meet or exceed OEM-level specifications using comparable high-grade materials. Our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 certified facility and are batch-inspected for quality and consistency.

How fast is shipping?

We ship worldwide quickly, with typical transit times of 5–15 days for most regions. Standard shipping is free. If available for your location, expedited shipping options and their costs will be presented at checkout.

What is the warranty and return policy?

This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If you encounter any issues, please contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window for items that are unused and in their original condition. See our full policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images and specifications against your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended for safety and performance.
