Product Details

This aftermarket Outboard Control Cable Installation Kit provides a reliable, direct replacement for worn or damaged throttle and shift cables on a wide range of Yamaha 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboard motors. Cable length requirements vary by boat, so measuring your existing cables is critical for proper fitment.

These cables are built to serve as direct replacements for Teleflex/Seastar CCX63318 (18ft) and other CCX series control cables.

  • Connects the helm control box to the engine's throttle and shift mechanisms.
  • Features a durable steel wire core with a protective outer sheathing for smooth operation.
  • End fittings are threaded for secure attachment at both the helm and engine.

Engine & Model Compatibility

Confirm your engine model/year in the table below.

For Yamaha outboards, compatibility is primarily determined by the required cable length and end-fitting style, which are standardized across many models. Always measure existing cables before ordering.

Brand Model Rated HP Stroke Notes
Yamaha Various Multiple 2 & 4-Stroke Cable length is dependent on the boat's configuration and the distance from the helm to the engine.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is off.
  2. Carefully detach the old control cables from both the engine and the helm control box. Note the routing path.
  3. If possible, attach the new cable to the end of the old one and gently pull it through the boat's rigging tubes.
  4. If routing fresh, guide the cable from the helm to the engine, avoiding sharp bends or kinks.
  5. Securely connect the new cable ends to the control box and the engine's throttle/shift levers.
  6. With the engine off, move the control lever to test for smooth, full-range motion in both forward and reverse.
  7. Adjust the cable tension at the engine and control box as needed to remove excess slack and ensure positive gear engagement.
  8. Start the engine in a safe environment (water or with a flush attachment) to confirm proper shifting and throttle response.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I determine the correct cable length?

Measure the existing cable from tip to tip. If a cable is not available, measure the path from the helm control box to the engine, adding extra length for any bends and engine movement. It's always better to have a slightly longer cable than one that is too short.

What are the signs of a failing control cable?

Common symptoms include a stiff or hard-to-move throttle/shift lever, grinding noises, delayed response, or the inability to shift into gear. Visible signs like a frayed or corroded cable also indicate it's time for replacement.

Can I use one of these cables for just throttle or just shift?

Yes. These are single-function mechanical cables. Most boats use two identical cables—one for the throttle and one for the shift mechanism. You can replace one or both as needed.

Is any special lubricant needed during installation?

The cables are pre-lubricated internally. No additional lubrication is required within the cable housing. Applying a light coat of marine-grade grease to the end fittings and pivot points during installation is recommended.

What is the difference between this and a Teleflex/Seastar CCX cable?

Functionally, there is no major difference. Our aftermarket cables are designed to meet or exceed the performance specifications of major brands like Teleflex/Seastar, using comparable materials and construction methods for reliable operation.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
