  • 1 x Propeller Drive Pin (307949/765545)

Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off and the ignition key is removed. Shift the outboard into the neutral position.
  2. Remove the cotter pin, propeller nut, and any washers from the propeller shaft.
  3. Slide the old propeller off the shaft. If the old drive pin is sheared, remove both pieces from the shaft and the propeller hub.
  4. Align the new propeller on the shaft, ensuring the drive pin hole lines up with the hole in the propeller shaft.
  5. Insert the new drive pin through the propeller hub and the propeller shaft until it is centered.
  6. Reinstall any washers and the propeller nut. Tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  7. Secure the nut by inserting a new cotter pin and bending its ends around the castellated nut.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What is the purpose of a propeller drive pin?

A propeller drive pin (or shear pin) is a sacrificial part designed to break if the propeller strikes an underwater object. This protects the more expensive and critical drivetrain components, like the gearcase, from catastrophic damage.

How do I know if my drive pin needs replacement?

If your engine revs up but the boat doesn't move or moves very slowly, the drive pin has likely sheared. You can confirm by removing the propeller and visually inspecting the pin. Always carry spares on board.

Will this fit my Johnson 15 HP from 1995?

Yes, based on the compatibility data, this pin fits Johnson/Evinrude models in the 8-15 HP range from 2000 and newer, as well as many earlier models. Always verify that your engine uses a non-thru hub exhaust and pin drive system before ordering.

Is this pin reusable?

No. Once a drive pin shears, it is destroyed and must be replaced with a new one. They are not designed to be repaired or reused.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
