Installation Notes

Professional installation is highly recommended. The following are general, non-specific guidelines:

  1. Disconnect the battery and secure the engine to prevent accidental starting. Ensure the engine is cool.
  2. Drain the engine oil and coolant to prevent spills.
  3. Remove the cylinder head cover, cylinder head, and gasket. Keep track of bolt order.
  4. Carefully rotate the crankshaft to access and remove the connecting rod cap for the target piston.
  5. Gently push the old piston and connecting rod assembly out from the top of the cylinder.
  6. Clean the cylinder bore and inspect for wear or damage. Verify it is within service limits.
  7. Install the new piston rings onto the new piston using a ring expander tool, ensuring correct orientation.
  8. Attach the new piston to the connecting rod with the wrist pin and secure it with the new clips.
  9. Lubricate the new piston, rings, and cylinder bore with fresh engine oil. Use a piston ring compressor to carefully guide the new assembly into the cylinder.
  10. Re-install the connecting rod cap and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
  11. Reassemble the engine using new gaskets as required, torquing all fasteners to specification.
  12. Refill engine fluids, reconnect the battery, and perform a compression test before starting the engine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How can I confirm this piston kit will fit my engine?

The surest way is to match your existing part number to one listed in our Part Number Matrix. You can also review the Engine & Model Compatibility table to see if your specific engine model, HP, and year range are listed. Always compare the pictures to your old part before ordering.

Is this a standard bore size piston?

Yes, this is a standard size piston kit. It is designed to replace the original piston in an engine block that has not been bored oversize. If your cylinder has been machined, you will need an oversized piston.

My engine is a 50 HP model, but the title says 60-70 HP. Will this fit?

While the primary application is for 60-70 HP models, this kit also serves as a direct replacement for specific 50 HP Evinrude and Johnson engines manufactured between 1995 and 1999. Please check the compatibility table for details.

What are the signs that my piston and rings need replacement?

Common symptoms include a noticeable loss of engine power, reduced compression (tested with a compression gauge), excessive blue or white smoke from the exhaust, and increased oil consumption. A rattling or knocking sound from the engine could also indicate a severe piston issue.

What is the difference between an OEM part and this aftermarket kit?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

What are your shipping speed and cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.
