Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off, the ignition key is removed, and the gearshift is in the neutral position. For added safety, disconnect the battery.
  2. Remove the old cotter pin by straightening its legs and pulling it out with pliers.
  3. Unscrew and remove the propeller nut, washer/spacer, and the propeller itself. The thrust bushing may come off with the prop or stay on the shaft; remove it.
  4. Clean and inspect the propeller shaft and splines for any signs of wear, damage, or fishing line entanglement. Apply a light coat of marine-grade grease to the shaft splines.
  5. Install the new thrust bushing onto the propeller shaft, ensuring it is seated correctly against the gearcase.
  6. Slide the propeller onto the splined shaft until it contacts the thrust bushing.
  7. Install the new propeller nut spacer (if applicable) and thread on the new propeller nut.
  8. Tighten the propeller nut to the manufacturer's recommended torque specification using a torque wrench. Do not overtighten.
  9. Align a slot on the nut with the hole in the propeller shaft. If they don't align, tighten slightly until the next slot aligns; do not loosen.
  10. Insert the new cotter pin through the hole and bend the legs securely around the nut to lock it in place.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this kit fits my specific engine?

The best method is to check the part number stamped on your existing hardware or listed in your engine's service manual. Cross-reference that number with the OEM and aftermarket numbers provided in our Part Number Matrix. While our compatibility table is extensive, verifying the part number is the most accurate way to ensure a perfect fit.

What are signs my propeller hardware is failing and needs replacement?

Common signs include visible corrosion or damage to the nut or thrust washer, difficulty removing the old hardware, or a propeller that feels loose or wobbles even when the nut is tight. A humming or vibrating noise from the propeller area during operation can also indicate worn components.

Why is the thrust bushing so important?

The thrust bushing is a critical component that fits between the propeller and the gearcase housing. It absorbs the forward thrust generated by the propeller, preventing costly damage to both the propeller and the gearcase. Always use the correct thrust bushing for your application.

Can I reuse my old cotter pin or prop nut?

No. Cotter pins are single-use items designed to deform when installed and should never be reused. It is also highly recommended to replace the propeller nut and other hardware when installing a new propeller to ensure a secure, reliable fit free from worn threads or corrosion.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
