Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this propeller nut kit fits my engine?
This kit fits specific Mercury, Mariner, and Force models. Please review the "Engine & Model Compatibility" table and verify your engine's horsepower, stroke, and year range. Comparing the OEM part number (13914Q02) to your service manual is the best way to confirm fitment.
What is the purpose of the locking tab?
The locking tab is a critical safety feature. Once the propeller nut is tightened, the tab is bent to lock the nut in position. This physically prevents the nut from vibrating loose during operation, which could otherwise lead to propeller loss.
Can I reuse my old hardware?
It is strongly recommended to use all the new components provided in this kit. Old hardware can be worn, corroded, or fatigued, which may cause improper fitment, vibration, or failure. This kit provides a complete set of matching components for a secure and reliable installation.
What are the signs that my propeller nut needs replacing?
Inspect your propeller hardware during routine maintenance. You should replace the kit if you see heavy corrosion, stripped or damaged threads, a broken or fatigued locking tab, or if the nut can no longer be tightened to the correct torque specification.
My propeller is vibrating after installing the new kit. What's wrong?
Vibration can stem from several sources. First, confirm the propeller nut is tightened to the manufacturer's specified torque. Vibration can also be caused by an unbalanced, bent, or damaged propeller blade. Finally, ensure the propeller and thrust washer are fully seated on the shaft with no play.
How tight should the propeller nut be?
The correct torque specification is crucial and varies by engine model. Always refer to your engine’s official service manual for the exact torque value. Overtightening can damage the propeller shaft or gearcase, while undertightening can allow the propeller to become loose.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
