Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this elbow fits my specific Yanmar engine?

This elbow is a direct fit for Yanmar 2GM and 3GM series engines from the 1980s to 2000s. It also fits some 2QM and 3JH models. Always compare your old part to our photos and check the OEM part number (124223-13500, 124223-13501, or 124223-13502) to guarantee compatibility.

What are the signs of a failing mixing elbow?

Common signs include steam or water in the engine bay, overheating, loss of engine power, excessive black smoke from the exhaust, and visible corrosion or leaks on the elbow itself. A clogged mixing elbow restricts exhaust flow and can cause serious engine damage.

Why choose a stainless steel part over the original cast iron?

Stainless steel offers significantly better corrosion resistance compared to the original cast iron elbows, especially in a saltwater environment. This leads to a longer service life and reduces the risk of premature failure from rust-through.

How often should a mixing elbow be inspected or replaced?

It is good practice to inspect the mixing elbow annually for signs of corrosion, carbon buildup, or blockage. While service life varies, many boat owners replace them every 3-5 years as preventative maintenance to avoid unexpected failure.

Is this a genuine OEM part?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
