Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear case drain and vent screws to empty the gear oil.
- Disconnect the speedometer tube (if present) and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gear case) to the engine's upper section.
- Carefully lower and remove the gear case assembly.
- Locate the water pump housing on top of the gear case. Remove the housing bolts and lift the housing to expose the impeller.
- Note the orientation of the old impeller's blades. Slide it off the drive shaft, removing the drive key as well.
- Clean the housing interior and inspect it for scoring or damage. Lightly lubricate the new drive key and insert it into the shaft.
- Slide the new impeller onto the shaft, aligning it with the key. Rotate the shaft clockwise while pushing down to seat the impeller.
- Re-install the water pump housing, ensuring a proper seal. Tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Re-attach the lower unit to the engine, re-fill with fresh gear oil, and reconnect the battery before testing.
