Installation Notes
- Disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and battery for safety.
- Place the outboard motor on a suitable stand and drain the gearcase oil into a container.
- Unbolt and carefully separate the lower unit (gearcase) from the upper engine housing.
- Remove the water pump housing bolts and lift the housing to expose the impeller. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller blades.
- Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, and any gaskets or wear plates.
- Clean the housing and plate surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new woodruff key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft.
- While pushing down, turn the driveshaft clockwise to help fold the blades into the correct direction inside the housing.
- Reassemble the housing with new gaskets and tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit to the engine, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.
- Secure the lower unit bolts and refill the gearcase with fresh oil.
- Reconnect the spark plug wire(s) and test the engine in water, confirming a steady stream from the tell-tale port.
