Installation Notes
- Disconnect the spark plug leads and turn off the fuel supply for safety.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase oil drain screw to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts that secure the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's upper casing.
- Carefully separate and lower the gearcase assembly to expose the water pump housing.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing and remove the cover and any gaskets.
- Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft. You may need to gently pry it off. Note the orientation of the vanes.
- Thoroughly clean any old gasket material, sediment, or debris from the housing, wear plate, and cover.
- Apply a light coat of marine-grade silicone grease, glycerine, or simple dish soap to the inside of the pump housing and to the new impeller.
- Align the keyway and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft clockwise to help bend the vanes into the correct orientation inside the housing.
- Reinstall the water pump cover, using new gaskets if included, and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Carefully guide the driveshaft and water tube back into position as you reattach the lower unit to the engine. Secure all bolts.
- Refill the gearcase with the correct type and amount of marine gear lube before starting the engine.
