Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this kit fits my MerCruiser engine?
This kit fits MerCruiser Alpha, Bravo, and TRS sterndrives, as well as various V6 and V8 inboard engines from 1987–2016 that use a one-piece plastic sea water pump housing. Always confirm your specific engine model and year in the compatibility table provided above before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or non-existent stream of water from the tell-tale (water indicator) outlet, and a dry-running sound from the pump area. During inspection, visible cracks, tears, or stiff/brittle vanes on the old impeller confirm it needs replacement.
How often should I replace my water pump impeller?
As a best practice for preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. Frequency may depend on operating conditions, such as running in saltwater or debris-heavy water, which can accelerate wear.
Is this a complete kit for the job?
Yes, this is a complete kit that includes the water pump housing, a new impeller, wear plate, necessary O-rings, and installation bolts with washers. It provides all the core components needed for a standard replacement of the sea water pump assembly.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Our parts are manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility and are batch-inspected for quality and consistency.
