- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the gearcase and remove the drain/fill screws to empty the gear oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper engine housing and carefully lower it.
- Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing assembly from the driveshaft.
- Clean the mounting surface and inspect the driveshaft for wear.
- Install the new wear plate, gasket, and impeller key. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning clockwise.
- Install the new housing, seals, and cartridge, ensuring all components are correctly aligned.
- Bolt the new assembly down to the specified torque.
- Reinstall the lower unit, refill with fresh gear oil, and test the engine using a water source (flusher or test tank).
