Installation Notes

To ensure proper fit and smooth operation, select the correct cable length by measuring the following:

  1. Distance from the center of the engine to the bilge area through the rigging tube.
  2. Distance from the bilge area to the gunnel where the cables will run.
  3. Total length of the gunnel or rigging tube.
  4. Distance from the gunnel to the console control box.
  5. Add 2 feet (0.6m) to the total measurement to allow for a sufficient bend radius and prevent binding.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if these cables will fit my engine?

First, confirm your engine's make, model, and HP rating against our compatibility table. Second, verify that your system uses 33C/3300 series cables. These cables have 10-32UNF threaded ends. If your existing cables match these specs and part numbers, they should fit.

Are these cables compatible with brands other than Yamaha and Honda?

Yes, 33C/3300 is an industry standard. These cables are compatible with most Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Tohatsu, and Nissan remote control systems that specify 33C-type cables. Always verify the connection type on your control box and engine.

What causes control cables to fail?

Common causes of failure include corrosion from saltwater exposure, kinks or sharp bends in the cable routing, and internal wear and tear from friction over time. Signs of a failing cable include stiffness, grinding, or excessive play in the throttle or shift lever.

How often should I replace my throttle and shift cables?

There is no fixed interval, but for preventative maintenance, consider replacing them every 5-7 years, or sooner if you notice any signs of wear, stiffness, or damage. Regular inspection is key.

What is "plastic-on-plastic" technology?

It refers to the internal construction where a low-friction plastic core slides within a plastic liner. This design, combined with a splined core, significantly reduces friction compared to older metal-on-metal designs, resulting in smoother operation and a longer lifespan.

Do I need special tools for installation?

Basic hand tools like wrenches and pliers are usually sufficient. The most important part of the installation is routing the cable correctly to avoid sharp bends or kinks. No special calibration tools are required.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
